If you have booked yourself in for alloy wheel refurbishment with the team at SOS Alloys, you will want to treat your freshly reconditioned alloys with care during the winter months. Having your alloys repaired, painted or powder-coated is great for the visual representation of your car, and you will want them to stay looking good for the long haul during some of the most treacherous driving conditions the season has to offer.
Here are some quick care tips from the team at SOS Alloys that we suggest you follow to keep your alloy wheels healthy and in top shape.
First Month of Use
For the first 24 hours following your mobile alloy wheel refurbishment, we recommend that you have a hands-off approach and do not wash them after being freshly reconditioned.
After 24 hours, you can wash the wheels by hand. We recommend that you wash only by hand for the first four weeks following the work done. Light rain and brief water contact should not damage your wheels, but greater amounts of rain, high-pressure sprays or prolonged immersion can highly damage your clear coat.
Time is of the essence when it comes to mobile alloy wheel repair, so be sure that you take the advice on those first four weeks of care.
Proper Cleaning After 4 Weeks
You must never wash alloy wheels when they are hot. Cool them with plain water before using any soap.
Built-up road dirt, grime, salt and brake pad dust will have to be thoroughly washed clear so they do not damage the finish or lead to corrosion of your alloys. As soon as the four weeks have passed, you can use acid-free cleaning agents on the wheels. Make sure that whatever you use is free from any acids, as they will damage both the clearcut and the substrate.
Do not use any abrasive polishes or other agents for your wheel care. If the protective layers of the clearcut become damaged, it will need immediate repair.
Avoid Car Washes
Alignment rails on most car washes were designed before the arrival of newer, low-profile tire styles. With high sidewall tires, the rim never gets near the rail.
Low-profile tires allow the rim to hide below the top of the alignment rail and can lead to extensive damage to the edge of the wheel. For premium wheels, we advise the best treatment of hand care only. If you need to use a car wash, try to find a touchless style system and avoid places with alignment rails.
At SOS Alloys, we have extensive knowledge and experience in the care of alloy wheels. Ask our friendly staff for the best methods for your reconditioned alloys after you book yourself in for mobile alloy wheel repair Manchester.
